Chronic Diarrhea in ChildrenChronic diarrhea in children may be a minor or a major illness. Diarrhea is caused when water in the intestines is not properly absorbed. This decreases the absorption of carbohydrates, fats, nutrients, vitamin and minerals. Chronic diarrhea occurs after 14-28 days of watery/loose stools with approximately 4-10 episodes daily. Sometimes stools may be bloody or have mucus. Other symptoms may include abdominal pain, weight loss, fatigue, constipation, rash, vomiting, nausea, joint aches, ulcers in mouth, and loss of appetite.
