Leg Movement Disorders

Leg Movement DisordersA sleep study can determine whether or not your child’s leg movements affect quality of sleep. Periodic Limb Movement Disorder (PLMD) is a condition with repetitive movements that may lead to arousal during sleep. If movements are frequent and/or forceful enough, arousals can be visualized on the sleep study. This differs from Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS); known as uncomfortable sensation in legs that cause irresistible urges to move legs when at rest or lying down. RLS occurs less than 6% of the time in children while PLMD may occur up to 35% in children.
