Sleep Study in Pediatrics

Sleep Study in PediatricsPolysomnography (PSG), known as a sleep study, records information in the form of waves to measure function of sleep. Primarily, a sleep study in the pediatric population is used to diagnosis benign primary snoring verses obstructive sleep apnea.

There are several parts of a sleep study and include the following: records brain activity and rapid eye movement (REM), measures airflow of nasal passageways, evaluates chest/abdomen/ muscle effort, records leg movement and monitors oxygen saturation.

Treatments include nasal steroids, tonsil/adenoid removal and/or CPAP depending on outcome of study.
